Internet Safety Info

The Internet offers new opportunities for stalking, hence the term cyber stalking. The cyberstalker can, from the safety of his or her home, or the anonymity of an office environment, trace, track and find out personal details of the target, including address, phone number, and more sinisterly, addresses and details of the target's family. The Internet also offers unlimited opportunity to befriend lonely, vulnerable and nice people who can be persuaded to start a relationship. Most people do not recognize the symptoms of stalking and the techniques a stalker employs to target them.

Foodie Friday~ whole grain Pasta Salad

Add 12 ounces of whole grain shells or spiral pasta to boiling water and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Remove from heat and drain immediately, rinsing with cold water. Place in colander and set aside to drain.
While the pasta is draining, finely chop or grate your favorite veggies. Some of the vegetables we use are: sweet red onion, carrot, celery, red bell pepper, cucumber, summer squash, cherry or chopped tomatoes, etc.
Top with your favorite dressing(we use Italian) or pesto sauce and toss gently. Other seasonings may be added if desired. Sometimes we use all-purpose or Italian seasoning. This pasta salad can be served either alone, or on a bed of salad greens. Can be garnished with minced parsley, chives, or finely grated carrots. ENJOY!

Think, Thinking, Thought

Can you believe this year is half over? That amazes me. Seems like we just welcomed 2006 in and now its rolling down hill. I've decided to start next month (july) making Christmas gifts. Why? Because, as hard as I try, I'm not a last minute person. Maybe it was all those years of intense band camp and having to be on time or face the consequience. I'm always thinking ahead, planning things out in my mind, and setting everything in order. Doesn't always go the way I plan it, but at least I have a running thought about stuff. So... that said. I'm thinking several doilies, as usual, some angel toppers, and ornaments for the trees, and some dishcloth sets too. Last year I made those angel dishcloths, and they came out very well. Its a free pattern from Priscilla Hewitt's Crochet.

I'm searching for angel topper and dishcloth patterns this morning. If anyone has a suggestion lemme know. I'm open for all ideas. On a lighter note, the pool hit 90 yesterday. It feels soooo good. We swam until about 9pm last night. It was great. Hopefully, we will get the hot tub plumbed in pretty soon. That is so yummy when it gets cold outside. Something about cold air, and sitting in hot water. Its groovy. Kids have discovered the joys of a "spirograph" we found at a thrift store yesterday. best 50 cents I've spent in ages. Can you belive it was a vintage game, made in 1967 and still had most all the parts, and the original manual? I confess, I've been playing with it too. HEH. Have a great weekend ya'll.

Foodie Friday~ Bacon Wrapped Corn on the Cob

Ingrediants:
8 ears corn
1 pound bacon

Gently pull back the husk exposing the corn. Do not remove the husk. Remove the corn silk and use a brush to make sure all the silk is removed. Soak the corn with the silks removed in water for 30 minutes. This will prevent the husks from charring.

Preheat a grill to medium heat.

Remove from the water and pat dry. Take a strip of bacon and wrap it around the corn. Fold the corn leaves back over, covering the bacon and corn. Tie the leaves with butcher string and repeat the process for each ear of corn. Place the ears of corn on the hot grill and cook, turning occasionally until bacon is cooked and corn is tender, approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

One Word is All I Ask

Please leave a one-word comment that you think best describes me--it can only be one word long. Then copy and paste this into your blog so I may leave a comment about you. This is not so much about fishing for compliments as it is an exercise showing how hard it is to use just one word to describe someone! When I try, I keep thinking up phrases or at the least, two words. Give it a try & I'll do the same for you if you're so inclined. :)(From Deneen's Blog)

Foodie Friday

Chocolate gravy.
Yes, it is bad for you. If you eat it everyday. Yes, it has sugar. Otherwise, it wouldn't be evil. Yes, yes, yes..... I know several ways ppl make this treat. . Been making it the same way since I was 9 years old. This is a Sunday morning treat around here. Everyone looks forward to Chocolate gravy Sunday. ( i have a homemade biscuit recipe, a few posts down...that would sure go nice with this, too)

1 cup fat free milk
1 cup sugar ( u can use 3/4c. but no lower as it gets icky bitter)
4 tbs cocoa. (I use hershey's, u can try carob powder tho)
1 tsp butter.

in a medium saucepan, combine dry ingrediants and mix. Add milk and cook over med. high heat until begins to bubble. This syrup has a rise-and-fall in the pot. Keep stirring it, and it will begin to rise up in the pot, keep stirring. eventually it will begin to fall back down to the beginning level. When it gets there (usually about 5 minutes) its done. Take off heat, pour up in some cutegravy boat, and add the butter and stir. This is wonderful over crumbled biscuits. Also, use the left overs for ice cream, smores, or save for those leftover biscuits as a good midnight snack. Gosh, that sounds bad... heh. Try it. this is some good stuff!

Happy Foodie Friday!

Windsong Doily update

Elizabeth Hiddleson's "Windsong" Doily, done in size 30 baby blue cebelia threads. The first pic was last week, the next pic is from today.

I'm halfway through this doily now. I have to say it is pretty "darn" hard work. I don't care much for putting motifs together and this thing had 12 pinwheels to attach. Grr. I'm on round 34 out 46, so I'm getting there... Slowly but, surely.... I've decided to take this one to be framed I can't imagine it sat on a table and something dribble on it.. No way.
I was thinking on a background color for the matte. What do you think ?black, navy blue, others? I really want it to "pop" when you see it on the wall. Give me some opinions. What color framing too? It will be hung on a sort of cream colored wall.

Foodie Friday

This week I'm going to cover cookware basics 101. I'm no Martha Stewart, but I did find this interesting in her magazine:

Q: What are the most important post and pans to have?

A: The essential pieces for any home cook are a ten-inch skillet, saucepans in two and four quart sizes, and a large stockpot ( about 8 quarts). You might also invest in a saute pan with a lid for braising meat; a dutch oven for slowcooking pot roast, lamb or the like; and a roasting pan for red meats or other large items, such as turkeys.

Consider purchasing individual pots and pans rather than a matching set. This way, you can select the materials and sizes to suit your needs. In general, thick, heavy pots are the most durable and distribute the heat the best. When it comes to materials, choices abound. Aluminum and stainless steel are good options for everyday cookware. Look for aluminum that has been anodized, or treated to make it harder, as well as stick-resistant and nonreactive. The latter means you can use it with acidic ingredients, such as wine, vinegar or tomato sauce, which take on a metallic taste when cooked in untreated aluminum. Stainless steel is the only metal that is dishwasher safe. Choose potsthat have an aluminum core, as these will heat more uniformly. Cast iron retains heat well and is ideal for searing but should not be used with acidic foods, which can acquire a metallice flavor. It also must be properly seasoned with oil to precent rusting and to create a nonstick finish. Cast iron coats with enamel offers the benefits of untreated cast iron but does not need to be seasoned and can be used to cook all foods. However, enamel is prone to chipping and is not nonstick like regular cast iron. Copper pots, which are lined with stainless steel or tin, heat and cool very quickly, making them a good match for delicate sauces. They must be polished frequently to maintain their shine though.

Foodie Friday

My Homemade Biscuits

I use Hodkins Mills naturally white flour.

1 cup low fat buttermilk
3 tbs. oil ( I use grapeseed)
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking soda, and salt

Preheat oven to 475. In a mixing bowl, add buttermilk and oil. mix until blended. Sift flour, soda, and salt together and add to milk. Add a bit more flour until dough semi sticks to spoon. it will have a good consistancy. Spoon into a iron skillet. Or round cake pan. This makes about 6-8 biscuits. Cooks fast. About 8 minutes, the turn to broil until browned. Serve with scrambled eggs & sausage gravy, or butter and have some freezer jam. YUM!

(yes I know its a small recipe, but its an important one) Back to normal next week I promise.

Friday Ketchup

Well I've been swamped this past week. I haven't had much time for internet fun. The good news is we are closing on the house tomorrow and they are suppose to start on the pool Monday! Buying a house is the hardest thing I have ever done. It takes every bit of excess energy you have. And every last cent, it seems. Anywho, I'm hoping things get back to normal next week. I'll post some pics of the house and pool phases as it goes along, too. Excuse the mess, and lack of posts this week!
Ciao!
