Pineapple bloom doily (patricia kristoffersen)

This is from Leisure Arts "Absolutely Gorgeous Doilies" #17~ Pineapple Bloom. Finished size 19" in diameter. Made with Aunt Lydia's White Crochet Thread #10. It is still on the blocking board. It was not hard, I made this while waiting on some thread to come in that I had ordered to complete another doily.

I do love her designs! I hope she comes out with some new ones soon, too!

Foodie Friday recipe~ Hot & Sour Soup

So while I'm here today, I wanted to post a recipe. This is what I'm eating right now. It is fabulous. If you like hot & sour soup....try this. You won't be disappointed.

Ingredients:1 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
1/2 cup water
8 cups freshly made chicken stock
1 cup bamboo shoots, julienne cut
1 cup chopped water chestnuts
1 cup fresh shiitake mushrooms, julienne cut or sliced thinly
1 tablespoon white pepper
1/4 cup vinegar
Salt, to taste
Hot red pepper, to taste (use a light hand)
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil

Directions:
Whisk together cornstarch and water; set aside. In a stock pot, warm chicken stock over medium heat. When stock begins to steam, add bamboo shoots, water chestnuts and shiitake mushrooms; cook 15 minutes -- adjust heat if necessary to keep soup just below a boil. Stir in white pepper, vinegar, salt and hot pepper to taste. Add cornstarch mixture slowly, stirring until mixture is thick and well-combined (at least 2 minutes -- taste to make sure there is no lingering cornstarch aftertaste before proceeding). Add beaten egg, stirring to make swirls of cooked egg in the soup, add sesame oil. Serve immediately.

Yes, Martha.. I'm still alive

It has been 2 weeks since I posted on my blog. My apologies for that. Its wierd how everyday life gets in the way of having personal time, isn't it? Not ALOT has been going on. Just life stuff. With the holidays approaching, working, cleaning, and being mommy ...I'm stretched pretty thin. I have been finishing up several gifts. All doilies this year. Kathy (katchkan) sent me a wonderful Christmas ornament that I received yesterday. I completely adore and am in awe of it. If you would like a copy of the pattern, it is listed free here. I am going to tackle making one..in the future. I've decided after Christmas to finally finish the Cathedral Afghan that I started what...2 years ago? Sigh. I'm such a procrastinator sometimes..... Next year, my crocheting goal is going to be to make an oval tablecloth for my table. What an adventure that will be. I've chosen an Elizabeth Hiddleson oval tablecloth with pinwheels and pineapples. I've been catching up on reading your blogs, and commenting as time provides. I'll be glad when things get back to normal after the Christmas rush! Hugs and best Christmas wishes to you all!

ARGHH!!

You know what I've had it. I'm tired of picking up after everyone. I'm tired of doing all the laundry. I'm tired of cooking, cleaning and then cleaning up from cooking and cleaning. I'm tired of the woodsy smell of hunting paraphinalia. ARGH!

Wahoo!

I have to have a personal gloating moment, every once in awhile.

I won the very first hook Jimbo turned on his new lathe. It is laser engraved with "Jimbo #1". And, its a size K. What am I going to do with a size K hook? Suggestions? I thought about maybe making an afghan or something. I'm open for ideas though. If u need/want a custom hook, he's ur guy.

Yes ~ I'm busy.

So, even though I was off work today. I still worked. A house has laundry, thats unending. Thats for sure. I watched Martha Stewart, and they were making vintage-looking tshirts. So, i thought I'd give it my best shot. DD's really like them. So, they think mommy is the coolest, again. Also, I' ve been redoing an antique dry sink. It was in terrible shape when I was gifted with it. I've been taking my time with the restoration. It has 5 layers of stains and paints on it. horrible. It will eventually be a glossy walnut finish and in my dining room as a buffet table. (maybe) Anywho. I've almost finished the table itself and thought I'd share. I still have 2 doors and 2 drawers to redo. one was cracked so I had to glue and clamp. I've taken a break from crocheting this week. Joint was aching. I'll be back full force soon though.

Fall pics

I've noticed alot of scenery is finally taking on more of a autumnish tinge. Took this while out today. Its a huge field that is covered in those wild daisies. In the background u can see the leaves are beginning to change. *yays*

Roll Tide 2

Blogger is being an "end" and the pics aren't working... nothing new.

Im trying again. ENjoy!

Roll Tide Roll

We spent the weekend at T-Town with my brother & SIL, oh, T-Town is Tuscaloosa for all you, non-Bama folk. It's been awhile since we went to a ballgame, and I had forgotten how packed, and simple wonderful gameday can be. We arrived 4 hours before gametime. Toured the new additions the the stadium, that seats around 92,000 people now, and the walk of champions that has statues commemorating the national championship coaches. It wasn't too hot. We stopped on the quad, for some fresh-squeezed lemonade and sat in the shade, looking at the programs, and listening to the band rehearse.

We went back to the Walk of Champions and waited on the team to arrive. I'm so glad I had the new camera that takes fast shutter pics. I got the whole team as they came in. The crowd cheered.

The stadium is amazing. It always is. The rush of the crowd, the excitment. Ah... I remembered how much fun gameday was. We had great seats in the upperdeck. Right under the skyboxes. The best view. Shaun Alexander was there, Saturday night. So was Bear Bryants 1981 Championship team. The band was great, the ball was...well. the way it has been all year. The highlight of the night was when a fan jumped on the field and ran like a moron. I loved it. He will never forget it either. Gack, If I only had balls I could do something like that too.. LOLOL After the game, as the crowd was leaving, we always get a cup collection. This year was massive. The boys carried them out over their shoulder and got so many comments. It was hilarious. They are proud of it, as u can see.
But the time there was great. I wish I could go watch Bama play Miss St this weekend... ah but, work calls. Enjoy the pics!

My Fat Bottom Bag

This was a great project. I used some Imagine yarn that is 75% cotton and 25% rayon in a soft grey colorway, along with some of that cocoa chenille. (hey I have a massive cone of it and never used any). The stitch is really easy once you get the hang of it. I think I'll prolly use that stitch on some other things I will be making. The handles are 5" bamboo. I wanted darker ones, but couldn't find any. I'll be making a brown liner with a pocket to go inside this. Just have to find the right color fabric. I'm going to try and get another bag done this month during the CAL. Maybe yarn ain't so bad after all. I really like the way this turned out.

Who is ur fav artist?

I'm sure being creative with fiber, that everyone must have a favorite artist, painting, sketch? Anywho, mine is M.C. Escher. I took alot of art classes in college. Mainly, because I thought they would help my GPA and ease off on my brain. I found out that I really enjoyed art, and that I could draw, and paint. Go figure. I like alot of abstract art. Escher's facinated me. I could dive off into one of his sketches for hours. I thought I'd share one of my fav's. And, prolly the most famous of his work "drawing hands". I have a canvas of this and 3 others hanging in the hallway. enjoy.

WIP Wednesday

Ok, so I've said that I'm a one project girl. But, I guess the Christmas bug has bitten. I've got 2 things going at the moment, and prolly another added on as soon as I decide on it. I got this hand dyed yarn in the mail the other day. Its sorta a soft varigated powder blue. I decided to tackle knitting a scarf for the dd. I'm using some cocoa chenille with it. Why? I dunno. Why am I knitting? That should be the question. I'm not a knitter. I hold the needles too tight or something. My knuckle aches today from doing that last night. I can crochet for hours. I try knitting for 1 hr and its not pretty. What do u think about the colors? good, bad, ugly?

The other project is a doily. I started one day this week. I just really liked the way the flowers turned out. :-)

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we recognize the progress being made towards a cure for this disease, which robs so many women of their health and, in too many cases, their lives. This year, an estimated 203,000 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and almost 40,000 will die. Although we have made great medical strides in understanding breast cancer, much remains to be done to advance prevention, early detection, and effective treatment.

Regular screenings remain the most effective way to identify breast cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages. For women 40 and over, having mammograms every 1 to 2 years can reduce the risk of dying from breast cancer. To ensure mammo-graphy is available to all American women, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides screening and treatment services through the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. Now in its 12th year, this Program has offered free and low-cost mammograms to almost 1.5 million low-income and minority women across our country.

The crochet bug has bitten again!

uh oh! hehehehehheheeh!

Thank you Deneen!

What a wonderful thing to find in the mailbox! Thready Goodness! I received this bright, turquoise silky thread from Deneen today! It is from China, and feels SOOO yummy. I'm thinking its mostly silk or rayon. The fun part was trying to roll some of it up to use. I had 3 helpers LOL. I've got enough wrapped up to create Deneen a wonderful Christmas present with it. Thank you again, I'm really going to enjoy it!

Happy Hooker Twins!

I was so surprised to find out I was having twins. Book twins that is! LOL. I bought a copy of SnB HH off Amazon.com, little did I know my friend, Kelly, did the same thing! I received both of them on the same day. Thank you again Kelly It was a very thoughtful gift, and I really appreciate it! Now I can join in the CAL next month for the fat bottom bag! *yays!*

Foodie Friday ~ The Ultimate Brownie

The Ultimate Brownie is my absolute favorite brownie. It is tall like a cakey-brownie, but is dense like a fudgy-brownie. I'm sure it will be one of your favorite brownie recipes too.

INGREDIENTS:
8- 1 ounce squares of unsweetened chocolate
1 cup butter
5 eggs
3 cups sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2-1/2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts, toasted

PREPARATION:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 13 pan.
Melt chocolate and butter in a saucepan over low heat; set aside. In a mixer, beat eggs, sugar and vanilla at high speed for 10 minutes**. Blend in chocolate mixture, flour and salt until just mixed.

Stir in the nuts. Pour into prepared pan.
Bake for 35-40 minutes. (Don't overbake.) Cool and frost if desired, but that is not necessary.

** It's not required, but it's very nice to own a stand mixer when making these :-) Have a great Weekend Ya'll!

9/11- where were u?

I remember I was watching the today show, and practicing a doily. They broke the news that something had hit the WTC and sent live footage over there. They were talking about it, like it was an accident. a mishap. Then, I sat with the rest of the world and watched as the 2nd plane hit on live tv. Shock ensued. We all realized at the same time that this was no accident. We were under attack. I called my hubby and told him to turn on the radio in his car, called my mom at work and told then the same thing. Sitting there watching everything unfold, and feeling so useless. There was nothing I could do to help, No where I could go to help. I checked the dd out of school and we all sat glued to the tv for hours, days, weeks. We will never forget. Rest in Peace to those lost, and God Bless those who live on.

9/11 We will never forget

Tuesday September 11, will be a date so entrenched in our memories that history will record it as the Day of Infamy for our generation. On this solemn anniversary, I pay tribute to : William Steckman.

William V. Steckman was doing his job on the morning of 9/11. Unfortunately , that placed him at ground zero with the terrorist-comtrolled American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the WTC.

Bill was a member of NBC's extended family(wnbc-tv. Engeineer) and had been since 1967. An avid, amateur radio operator, Bill set up one of NYC’s first amateur tv repeaters.

In 1993 when the WTC was bombed Bill was on his way home, ready to begin his weekend. He turned around and came back to the city and waited down on the street with others from NBC. Channel 4 was off the air and Bill would be the one to get it back on.

On September 11, 2001 this conversation took place:
"Please tell me Daddy's home," Donna Maneri, 34, said to her mother on Sept. 11 after she heard about the terrorist attacks.
He left behind: wife, Barbara; their four daughters, Maneri, 34, of West Hempstead; Debbie Koebler, 33, of Baldwin; Deanine Nagengast, 31, of Seaford; and Diana DeVito, 25, of Merrick, and their son, William E. Steckman, 22, West Hempstead.

Still Alive & Kickin'

I wanted to thank those who have asked how I was doing. I appreciate the fact someone out there cares how I'm doing. I'm doing better. I've got several hometown people who have the same problem (panic attacks) and we are supporting each other. It amazed me just how many suffer from this. If you do, be aware that a panic, or anxiety feeling can also be a symptom of another problem. MVP. Mitral Valve Prolapse. Actually, the symptoms are almost identical for them. Only a test from the Dr. can rule that out.

As WIP Wednesday post, I have gotten some crocheting done while I took a break from the computer. I finished up a Irish Crochet Doily, which I will be blocking and posting pics of soon. I've started that pineapple centerpiece for my grandmothers Christmas present. And, I'm testing a beautiful doily for a friend. So 1 down. 2 to go. Next month I've decided to start on some Christmas ornaments and gifts for my friends. Don't be surprised if you get a pm from me requesting ur address.... I'm already getting happy about the holidays.

Now, for the most pressing issue in my life this week. FOOTBALL! Yes, our first high school game of the year kicks off Friday night. An away game. Figures. Anywho. The importance of this is that it will be the first year the dd will be marching in the band! We are so excited! This mommy will be the camera queen, and pop will be manning the camcorder during the halftime show. I'm really glad we got the new camera with super zoom. I'm hoping for some goodness to scrapbook with. The only thing I'm pissed about is I get a phone call from an 8th grade band parent saying " Its tradition that the 8th grade parents hold a cook out for the whole band Thursday night (tomorrow) hotdogs, etc. Ok I can do that. Then she says, also, after they eat the 8th grade band parent takes the place of their child on the field and does the drill with the rest of the band. Excuse me? You want ME to go MARCH on a drill i dont KNOW? I work till 5pm. This shin-dig kicks off at 5 pm.can u see my frustration? and is that not the DUMBEST thing you have ever heard? My dd, needs to beg her pop cause mommy is NOT, repeat NOT going to do high-step knee marching and crap and get laughed at, all for the sake of some tradition. Nope. ain't gonna happen. I'll toss 'em 2 packs of hot dog buns, but no marching for mom.

And, last but not least I will leave you with my favorite saying this time of year:
ROLL TIDE ROLL! :-) Alabama plays Hawaii in its season opener at Bryant-Denny stadium, 6pm cst. I usually, attend this first game. I'm still grumbling about having to work the whole weekend again... grrr.
Have a great rest of the week guys. I'll be back sometime this weekend!

Feeling Crappy

So today has been a crapola day. I had a panic attack this morning. Just what I needed to start my day off with a bang. Went to the dr., and now at least I have some meds, so when i feel I'm going off the deep end, maybe I can help control it somewhat. So, that said... I'm headed to bed until the dd's get home from school. Keep me in your thoughts guys. I hate feeling that anxiety rush. I'm hoping its gone for awhile.... Have a good Thrusday yall!
HUGS!

Stacy needs

Swiped from Deneen's blog.

Stacy needs:
1...some thoughts on what to do with small roulette wheels,
2...a new pair of bloomers,
3...rescuing from time to time, but she is an expert kick boxer,
4...a bit and bridle for that horse mouth of hers.

She also needs to get a clue,
to use the bathroom,
and to look to the state of her soul.sigh....

But on the bright side, Stacy needs no boob job.

WIP Wednesday

Irish Crochet. I love it. I started an oval doily using a roses and leaves for the centerpiece. And, here it is. Using #20 ecru thread and a size 10 hook. This is one of my fav patterns. I've made it several times.

Another Butterfly doily

This is the 2nd doily from Aly Hymel's pattern. Its about 14 inches across. I used #10 threads in varigated pinks/purples and a size 8 hook. I really enjoyed these butterflies, too.

Another Hiddleson doily

As I was posting this a creepy, huge spider crawled out from under the desk and skiddled across the floor. I cannot move. I screamed, until hubby came down here, but the freakin monster got away. I'm called pest people tomo, I can't deal with critters skiddling across me... EEEKKK!!!

Ok, back to the doily. Another Hiddleson doily. about 10 inches in diameter, copper DMC perle #12 thread, #10 hook, and some iradescent beads complete the project. Very simply, enjoyed, and worked up super quick. Another Christmas present down! *yays*

UPDATE:HUBBY KILLED MASSIVE SPIDER!!!!!!!

Goddess & Queens~ blocking

I finished up this doily today and have it blocking. It was certainly a challenge to figure out the roses. Another Christmas present down. I couldn't wait to post a pic though. I'll have the finished project up in a few days. Here's what it looks like tonight.

Goddess & Queen Doily WIP

I started this over the weekend its from Aly Hymel's collection. I love the 3-d stitches in the center and how the butterflies "pop" up. An awesome design. I'm having problems making the roses that go round the butterflies. Otherwise, it is working up beautifully. If you have any tips on her roses, lemme know. I'm at my wits end.

Foodie Friday~ Omelets anyone?

Omelets are a great breakfast item allowing everyone to add their favorite ingredients. Each omelet must be made individually, but its worth it. To make omelets easy, use a handy, dandy non stick skillet.

Time Required: 5-10 minutes cook time per omelet

Ingredients:
2-3 eggs per person
Butter
Omelet toppings of your choice, such as:
Shredded cheese
Ham & turkey (deli slices cut into squares or chunks)
Cooked bacon and sausage
Diced green peppers & onions
Mushrooms

Steps:
Beat eggs together
Melt some butter in the pan
Add desired toppings (except cheese) and sauté for a minute or two
Pour enough eggs into the pan for one omelet
Allow the eggs to cook, lifting the sides of the omelet to allow more egg to reach the hottest part of the skillet
When the eggs are only slightly runny on top, flip the omelet
Fold the omelet over and serve.

Completed ~ Pineapple Passion Doily

Patricia Kristoffersen's Absolutely Gorgeous Doilies, "#4. Pineapple Passion". #20 ecru Cebelia and a size 10 hook. This doily is about 10 inches in diameter. I love the detailing in the center. Its a really small, delicate doily. Would be perfect framed, too. Another Christmas present down! *yays* Now to decide on the next project. I'm thinking of an oval Trish K. doily....hmm...
