Rose of Erin doily

Still plugging along on this doily. I'm up to making the edging. FINALLY. I really have NOT enjoyed making this one. Its extreamly difficult in my book. A Christmas present for my grammie. I know it will be worth all the hard work to see her face light up.

Semi-Completed project: Mayrose

Well I did complete it, just is on the blocking board at the moment. Had to take a pic though.

Also, I've decided to pull out the Rose of Erin doily and try it again. Thanks to the help of a fellow Raveler, Janka. Maybe this time
around I can master the pattern.

Chemo Caps

October is breast cancer awareness month. We all know that. My post today is about cancer. My mom's friend from work was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. SHe i going through the first round of chemo right now. Mom called and asked if I could make her a few chemo caps. Who could say no to such a request. I've been looking for a good basic pattern. I found this. So far. I've got some SS in navy and going to cast on tonight for this one. The pattern doesn't look to technical so maybe I can get her one soon.

Let's see. I work all the time now. Don't have much time for anything else. I have been knitting on a pair of boot socks for hubby. Since hunting season starts this weekend (sigh). I've been working in my living room. Removing wallpaper border (help me) and installing in-wall speakers, and mounting the tv on the wall. No, I didnt do it, but I did help hubs put the tv on the wall. The living room was cream colored. I'm sick of bland, so I've choen a light olive green. And I LOVE it! I've got 2 walls painted so far. This spring we will be putting hardwood flooring down and new baseboards. Then this room will be complete! Yays! I'll put pics up soon of my WIP room and the socks.

Hugs to ya all! I still read your blogs just dont post alot. Miss chatting with you guys!

What tha?

I've been working alot this week, hence not alot of updates on my blog. The 7 uba pups are growing like weeds. They will be a week old Sunday. I received an invite to a friends wedding shower in 2 weeks, so I'm dropping projects and starting a name doily for her. Thank goodness for a short name is all I gotta say!

We made strawberry freezer jam today. The girls enjoyed helping me, and I enjoyed the help. 24 jars. Whew.

We have a bent n dent grocery in town, and today they started receiving organic whole food products. I'm a happy camper. I love buying natural products but they are so expensive I usually just get the necessities. Today I splurged :-) Yes, I know to watch out for certain things. But considering they are not out of date, they are not damaged, and they are 90% off the store price.. It's all good.

*disgruntled, just ask* I'm coping with my carrier calling me to say she is thinking about quitting again, and wanting me to work for her until further notice. Turns out "the further notice" was one day. Count it again O N E day. This is the 2nd time she has pulled this on me. I'm NOT getting my hopes up again. I'll go and work, but I'm not saying a word to no one about it.

A knitting I will go...

Instead of buying good yarn for something I dont know if I can make yet, I've decided to try to make a sock with some fingering yarn I had in my stash. I know its not the prettiest color, but its free. So far I have the ribbing complete, next is the leg (and it scares me just reading the pattern) So, knitty friends watch out I'm going to have a few questions for u I reckon. The pattern I'm using is a booklet I bought the "last time" I thought I could attempt a sock...LOL its "The Ultimate book of Knit Socks" by Fran Ortmeyer. The pattern is called simply blue socks. I am a glutton for punishment aren't I.

Cathedral Window 'ghan

Can you believe I drug this thing out of storage? Me either. I've decided that I need to complete it before winter though. And, considering I'm about 20 rounds from completing, I've decided to challenge myself with it again. Sorry bout the sloppy pic, but have you ever tried to snap a pic of something so large? It is really hard. So, the next question is....what am I going to do with this thing once its complete? I mean, you cant really "use" it. It will pill up and look shabby. Why did I ever convince myself to start such a project???

Crochet News

So, I'm warming up to Ravelry. I like the concept, though. I've just got to get everythign in order here so I can post about it there. Hubby says I have too many forums now, and spend more time keeping up with everyone than crocheting. Nah. I can do both!

I went to this discount warehouse place Monday. I had never been there before and was thumbing around, when I found these huge 1lb cones of thread. I think it said it was buttonhole thread, but wow its as thick as crocheting thread, shiny, and I bought 4 colors, turquoise, khaki, pink, and copper. The bright colors will make good butterflies and flowers, the darks for doiles. I'll start testing with one of them soon to see how they do. They also had cebelia thread there. What usually sells for 2.99 at hobby lobby, I paid 15 cents for. they sell it by the pound :-)

Soooo...I have more threads now than I can shake a stick at!!! *HUGE THREAD WOOT*

I'm working on one of Kathy's doilies at the moment using some purple, lilac, and white. it is coming along nicely, too. I bought the yarn to work on my cathedral window 'ghan, too. I'll probably pull it out of hibernation by the weekend. I'd really like to complete it before fall. I've been working at it off and on for 2 years now. EEK! Have a Yummy Yarn day!!

Sad Doily Day

Ever spend time creating something, and are so swept away with it that you didnt take time to step back and actually LOOK at what you were creating. Sigh, I took a step back today, and realized the doily I thought looked so grand, looked like a purple mess. I was trying to make one with 2 different color strands of rayon thread. This is a 'no no'. Rayon does not hold shape well, and after numerous twists and turn starts to frey out. Sigh. So 15 rnds of a doily complete, and now its time to start over. I want to put a bucket over my head and kick it repeatedly. Thank goodness my legs aren't that long...... I'll save you the agony of defeat pictorial. Trust me, it ain't pretty.

moral: step back every few rounds and take a real look at what your creating. Dont wait tilll your halfway complete.

Dixie's World

What am I up to? Working on a doily. Reading up on lasagne gardening. Waiting on the pest control man to do his quarterly visit. Needing to get out of these Pj's and run to town. Contemplating life. Enjoying the quiet, while dd's are at school. Needing to do laundry. Needing to turn dishwasher on. Thinking its quiet chilly outside.Blogging.

There is my up-to-date meme status. Speaking of that, I made a meez! See it over on the sidebar?I didnt have coins, so I cant knit. But, I can travel. Right? Thanks to Deneen for providing the link to meez. If you want to make one of your own click here.I found a nice sale on ebay for Hiddleson books and snagged them. Waiting on them to arrive now. Also, I've made an offer on some bamboo yarn to make my contribution to Jimbo's wallhanging. I'm excited about that. And, I found a good deal on 1200+ yards of navy-ish cotton worsted yarn and hoping to pick it up too. Where did I find it? Why, right here

I'm here

I'm really here, just not blogging alot lately. I hit the just-finished-a-massive-project-and-dont-want-to-crochet-blues. But, I'm about over that. I'm currently finished up a Hiddleson doily and an Aly Hymel doily. They are on 2 totally different realms of the spectrum. Details and pics coming soon! Stay tuned.

Well its complete. Yes I did it. I rule! Tonight we laid it out and began the long process of blocking the runner. It measures about 5 ft by 3 ft. The largest project I've ever completed. I was so happy I had to take some pics. Its not completely pinned down I'll finish that up tomorrow. But hey i'm stoked about being this complete.

Final Finish

Yes Folks, it's true! I'm on the final round of the edging on the pineapple runner. I am thrilled. and I still want to set fire to it. now more than ever. This is a massive project. It's going to end up being about 30x48. I will probably use it on the dining table after the contest. I originally had figured it to go on the coffee table. Oh well. I can adjust. So, unless something comes up, tomorrow I will finish up the runner, give it a gentle washing and will lay it out to block. I will take pics and post then. It has really turned out gorgeous. I can almost take a sigh of relief and being to ponder my next project. I have some size 20 block opera thread that I really want to try out. Just don't have a porject in mind....yet. Have a great Thursday! Talk to ya'll soon!
