Sad Doily Day

Ever spend time creating something, and are so swept away with it that you didnt take time to step back and actually LOOK at what you were creating. Sigh, I took a step back today, and realized the doily I thought looked so grand, looked like a purple mess. I was trying to make one with 2 different color strands of rayon thread. This is a 'no no'. Rayon does not hold shape well, and after numerous twists and turn starts to frey out. Sigh. So 15 rnds of a doily complete, and now its time to start over. I want to put a bucket over my head and kick it repeatedly. Thank goodness my legs aren't that long...... I'll save you the agony of defeat pictorial. Trust me, it ain't pretty.

moral: step back every few rounds and take a real look at what your creating. Dont wait tilll your halfway complete.

Dixie's World

What am I up to? Working on a doily. Reading up on lasagne gardening. Waiting on the pest control man to do his quarterly visit. Needing to get out of these Pj's and run to town. Contemplating life. Enjoying the quiet, while dd's are at school. Needing to do laundry. Needing to turn dishwasher on. Thinking its quiet chilly outside.Blogging.

There is my up-to-date meme status. Speaking of that, I made a meez! See it over on the sidebar?I didnt have coins, so I cant knit. But, I can travel. Right? Thanks to Deneen for providing the link to meez. If you want to make one of your own click here.I found a nice sale on ebay for Hiddleson books and snagged them. Waiting on them to arrive now. Also, I've made an offer on some bamboo yarn to make my contribution to Jimbo's wallhanging. I'm excited about that. And, I found a good deal on 1200+ yards of navy-ish cotton worsted yarn and hoping to pick it up too. Where did I find it? Why, right here

Up Up and Away!

We went to a convention this past weekend in Dallas. It was full of ups and downs. (literally) Al Gore was the keynote speaker. No, he did not mention green living. He talked mainly about the IT and Satellite world of today. It was not too bad. The clouds were amazing. I found out mainly because of the storms that hit Kansas the same night. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families.

1 cup skim milk

What accent are you?

What American accent do you have?

Southern. Love it or hate it, your accent says you're probably from somewhere south of the Ohio River.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

The Tragedy of 'backovers'

As I was watching the Today Show this morning, something caught my eye. It is a story of 'backovers'. Did you know 2 children are killed each week by being ran over? This is near and dear to my heart. When I was 5 the car we owned popped out of gear, as I was getting into it. My mom was securing my brothers car seat in and I was on the passenger side. The car rolled, the door knocked me down, the car ran over me. My mom stopped the car, and ran around to me. The tire was on my left leg. She, then, had to get back in the car and drive it off of me. I went into shock, was air lifted to the hospital. After several surgeries, a few pins in my leg, 13 weeks of traction, half body cast, and learning how to walk again, I survived. A little girl in my town was not so lucky. She was killed Halloween night 2 years ago, as her mother backed over her, accidentally. Anything can happen in a split second. Be careful. Get out and check again, if kids are present. It pays to pay attention. Here is an excerpt from the Today Show:

"It’s the larger vehicles, the SUV’s, minivans and the pickups that have the biggest blind zones. The type of vehicles so many families now use. Here’s the typical scenario: a parent says goodbye to their child, gets in the car, checks the mirrors and takes off. The child wanting to say good bye one last time runs after the car and the parent can’t see the child. They have actually named this as “the bye, bye syndrome.” Kids and Cars, a non –profit organization, has been tracking deaths and injuries related to backovers. They say every week 2 children die from backovers.

Blind zones can vary, depending on the height of the driver and the type of vehicle. To see for myself, I conducted my own demonstration. I sat behind the wheel of an SUV. 20 kids were behind me. I checked the mirrors and turned my head to check behind me. I couldn’t see even one child! I was shocked and frightened. The car did have a camera. Once that camera was turned on I could clearly detect these children.

Kids and Cars along with 25 senators have now signed onto a bill that would make complete rear visibility standard on all vehicles. To read the rest of this story click here.

7 unknown things about moi

Good thing I read my bloglines. I noticed Elizabeth tagged me for a meme. Dontcha just love meme's. Ok 7 unknowns about me....

(1) I'm left-handed but do everything with my right hand, except write
(2)I was the youngest person in my grade levels every year. I was the last one to get my permit, the last one to get my license. bad then... good now. they are so much OLDER than I am.
(3) I was a majorette in HS, received a scholarship to a university, but had to forfeit it. Found out dd#1 was on the way. They won't let a pregnant baton twirler on the field. go figure.
(4) I was the only girl in scholars bowl in school for years.
(5)I cant eat fish. just cant do it. its squishy. but i love shrimp of any sort.
(6) I love fishing. Hubby and I go every chance we get. We use jigs, so I dont have to squish a worm or anything live on there too.
(7)I secretly would love to be a pilot or a race care driver. The need for speed and being in control I guess.

I figure most everyone has been tagged already. But, feel free to answer this on ur blog. I'd love to be nosy and read it.
